Salutations

Hello my name is Dr. Marissa Aro. I hold degrees in mythology and psychology, and I write at the intersection of fantasy and romance. I’m currently preparing to debut my first book series, with several additional projects already in development.

I’m passionate about weaving those perspectives into stories that explore identity, power, love, and transformation.

At the heart of my writing is a desire to blur the line between the mundane and the magical—to tell stories where everyday emotions meet extraordinary worlds, and where love and mythology intertwine in meaningful, immersive ways.

Children, dogs, and the best type of chaos

Throughout obtaining my first master’s degree and doctorate, I began growing my family. In 2020, I welcomed my son, in 2022, my first daughter, and in 2024, I was blessed with twin girls. Along with being a mom of four, I’m a dog mom of six. Two Newfoundlands, one Newfoundland/Poodle mixes, and a Poodle/Boxer mix; all very large, ridiculous, and full of energy.

Revisiting my original love, writing

In 2025, I decided I needed to revisit my original love of writing. I've joined a writing competition, wrote my first novel (since 2018) of 80,000 words, in four months.
